I have an apple tree thats 2 years old growing from seed. I know that it probably would be crabtree but that they are great for pollination.

My question is should I be pruning it? It has been growing in a pot and will be planted in the garden in the next month, hopefully. I got other appletrees and they have no side branches and realised that mine has a lot. Please advice. Thanks.

If it is going to be a crabtree then it should have a lot more branches than your cultivated apple trees. It is best to leave it unpruned at this stage and let nature take its course. When planting it out, give it a bigger area than your other apple trees as I fear it will be wide and big. Pruning can be carried out at a later stage to prevent encroching and to remove some lower branches to allow you get beneath it for mowing etc.
