Hi all,
I would like to introduce myself. I am Debbie and a first time gardener with, I hope, green fingers (all my indoor plants are growing way too fast )
I have 2 newly dug raised veggie beds and have been growing green manure over winter. Have dug in 1 bed so far and am trying to find the energy to do the same to the other. Have all my seeds lined up to be planted, potatoes chitting and fingers tingling with anticipation.
I would love to know if anyone knows where I could get Asparagus crowns. I would love to grow some but cant seem to find any.
Well I hope to be chatting with all of you over the course of the summer and hopefully you will be willing to help me out everytime something goes wrong |

Thanks SB,I hope someone knows. I dont want to eat any coming from Peru and we dont seem to get too much irish or even english asparagus. Not even when they are in season. Maybe I am asking for too much, but a girl can dream |

Hi there Chilligirl,
I've seen a good few places with Asparagus crowns but the're all round Dublin
(not sure how handy that is from Kerry!!).
They've all been from the usual English growers.
Saw some today in the fancy garden centre in Powerscourt, Enniskerry, Wicklow.
Also 'The Orchard', Celbridge.
Maybe try Seedsavers in Clare or Fruit Hill farm (in Cork I think).

Thanks Rach and Wedgetomb, didnt think that Homebase would do them. I will try them here in Kerry and otherwise I will call around, maybe they send them out. Seedsavers and The Organic Centre dont have them but I will try Fruithill. Thanks again for all the suggestions. |

Just in case you did not get asparagus at the beginning of the Summer I saw some in the Co-op in Carrigaline, Co Cork the other day. Plus Mr Middleton in Dublin has a kitchen garden catalogue for mail order and they do asparagus. |

Hi, I got mine from Dunsland garden centre in at the Dunkettle roundabout in Cork early last year. They were really good one year old crowns which are supposed to be better than older ones. April next year I think will be the time to plant crowns again. We left ours go to seed last year and this year ,so are really looking forward to having our own next year! Tried the ones from Peru, may as well have been chewing bamboo they were so tasteless! _________________ Always learning!
